Outreach Coordinator
at Tin Mountain Conservation Center in New Hampshire
The Outreach Coordinator position at Tin Mountain Conservation Center will increase education and outreach effectiveness, as well as visibility in the community. In addition, on-site trails, meeting facilities, and educational exhibits will help develop the center into a public gathering spot for the community inviting participation in the organization at higher levels. Specific Duties
The Outreach Coordinator will organize Tin Mountain Conservation Center outreach programs and promote opportunities for the Nature Learning Center and its educational programs. The Coordinator is Tin Mountain’s principle liaison with the general public. Specifically, the coordinator will:
* Organize and oversee focused on-site programs presented at the Nature Learning Center, * Increase the number of on-site programs, including weekly guided hikes, parent/child programs, stewardship courses, naturalist club events, as well as larger indoor gatherings and presentations in the great room, * Expand volunteer opportunities ranging from trail clearing and nature guides to facility receptionist and library duties, * Maintain the Tin Mountain website and provide information technology support for the organization, * Use the facility for technology transfer of “green” building options that encourage sustainable development, * Teach school programs and lead camps when required, * Present an expanded series of teacher programs, including workshops and special summer institutes, * Coordinate teaching and research resources that include the natural-science lending library, classroom and laboratory, educational kits for teachers, and a vast array of instructional props, * Promote expanded use of our natural history/science library and other nature displays and reference materials, * Provide outdoor enthusiasts ready access to trails for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing, * Encourage nature observation on the sanctuary, at bird feeders, and along the wetlands boardwalk, * Present environmental stewardship programs that offer hands-on experience for managing lands, * Maintain research/monitoring projects on the sanctuary and on Tin Mountain timberlands, and * Demonstrate sustainable agricultural practices by growing organic food in our gardens.Qualifications/Skills Required
The coordinator must be outgoing and personable since this is a position with much contact with the public. The position requires a can do attitude and a willingness to work long hours on occasion when the tasks require it. A certain amount of physical activity also is required, e.g., trail building, canoe carrying, mountain hiking, tree felling, etc., so the coordinator must be able to easily lift 50-60 pounds. A bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences or extensive experience is required, as well as ability to obtain wilderness first aid and life guard certification. Experience with event coordination, fundraising for events and other programs, and general marketing skills are a plus. The coordinator must be organized and be able to work independently on assigned tasks. Experience with databases and word processing software required.
