Full-time Ecological Statistician

at YERC in Montana

Yellowstone Ecological Research Center (YERC) is seeking an ecological statistician. The position will focus on analysis and integration of ecological datasets for forecasting organismic responses to changing landscape conditions within selected populations inhabiting the northern Rocky Mountain ecoregion, Alaska, and the coterminous US. The majority of the position’s tasks will focus on integrating demographic datasets with covariates derived from digital data sources including remotely sensed imagery and GIS layers. Demonstrated familiarity with multi-model inference, spatial ecology, and statistical methodology statistics is required. Successful candidates will have experience in the design of sampling protocols for field-based ecological data collections, as well as the ability to successfully integrate newly acquired datasets with legacy data of varying quality. The research will work across various computer software platforms including ArcGIS, ENVI, and R, and programming experience in these environments (e.g., IDL, VB, Python, especially R) is desirable.

Knowledge and Experience

Traditional training in statistical methods with a sound understanding of alternative approaches.

Demonstrated experience in spatial statistical analyses

Demonstrated training and experience in predictive modeling, spatial and/or landscape ecology or other related discipline

Experience in handling, managing, QAQC, and analysis of large temporal and spatial scale ecological datasets

Geographic Information Systems

Demonstrated ability to write both technical and non-technical summaries of analyses conducted, and to provide explanations of the same to specialists and non-specialists within a research and educational setting.

Aptitude for dissemination of results at scientific professional conferences and in peer-reviewed literature
